About the firm

Built by someone who has sat on both sides of the table

Saloterra Financial was founded on a straightforward observation. The advisers who add the most value in a transaction are usually the ones who have carried the risk themselves.

Leadership

Mohammed Saloojee

Mohammed has spent more than twenty years in corporate finance and strategy, across banking, treasury and management consulting. For a decade of that time he was also building two businesses of his own.

He has led due diligence on transactions exceeding R5 billion in cumulative value. Eight debt and equity capital transactions have been executed under his direction for large development finance institutions and private equity funds. Earlier in his career he provided advisory services to large multinational financial institutions. That experience set a standard he has carried into every mandate since, whatever the size of the business in front of him.

Alongside the advisory career he has closed more than thirty SME transactions through Saloterra Financial and more than doubled revenue at a manufacturing business in which he holds an active interest. That combination matters. Advice lands differently when it comes from someone who has bought, built and scaled businesses himself.

How we work

What the firm rests on

A few principles hold this firm together. They are not decorative. They determine how we perform and, rather more tellingly, how we behave when nobody is watching.

Integrity first

We will tell a client something they do not want to hear, early, when it still costs them nothing. A transaction that should not happen is one we would rather talk somebody out of.

Service worth judging us on

Client service is held to a standard we are willing to be measured against. Responsiveness is part of the work, not a courtesy extended when time allows.

Respect on both sides

Every counterparty in a transaction is treated properly, including the one across the table. Reputation in this market is built slowly and spent quickly.

Purpose

Long relationships rather than single transactions

We set out to build enduring client relationships rather than a pipeline of one-off mandates. That decision shapes how the firm is organised. The operating structure is built for results and the management philosophy is entrepreneurial. We also pay close attention to developing the people inside the firm.

We intend to leave a socially responsible footprint in the way we do business. In a market where capital reaches some businesses easily and others hardly at all, that is not a footnote. It is part of why the firm exists.
